CAPASS Camaraderie Philanthropic Association, Inc. (CAPASS) is the outcome of many years of brainstorming between two friends who want to give back to their country of birth Haïti what they received from the United States, and different part of the world: education, professionalism, and caring.Dr. Jean Joseph Philippe and Mr. Stanley Michel traveled to Haïti on many occasions since they left their beloved motherland. Dr. Philippe, his team, and many doctors’ friends provided medical support at all level, from general practices to surgical interventions to the patients at a medical facility in Cayes Jacmel. Therefore, there is a strong belief that Haïti is facing a giant health care crisis. They also realized that one of the most opportunistic ways for Haïti to move forward is to encourage the Haitian-Diasporas to bring back their education and experience in the most constructive way. These two friends decided to start a given back process in a very important infrastructure area; Health care. Coincidentally, Dr. Philippe and his brother were contacted by an aging missionary friend, Dr. Brinson McGowan in Cayes Jacmel. He asked them to look into “Centre Medical Emmanuel” (CME) and to formulate a process to improve this mission he started almost thirty years ago. Dr. Philippe and Stanley requested and received the support of many friends. They met and initiated an evaluation step, this step underscored a major issue with CME; a lack of outside support groups to keep CME operational and progressing. Among them are: educational and training facilities, food production and distribution, satellite healthcare clinics, and a micro financing system. Dr. Philippe and Mr. Michel are dedicating their time to this new venture. They started a project plan to improve CME, also they are seeking the help of friends and their networks to make health care a reality for those living in that region. Their hope is this example could be emulated in other regions of Haïti. |
